Mmm Cookies and Cream

One of my favourite things in New York city are the milkshakes!  Particularly the Cookies and Cream one available at Good Burger.  It costs $6 and is totally worth it.

So, with cookies and cream on my mind... of course I had to turn that into a cupcake!  I crushed Oreos and put them into the batter as well as the icing.  I thought the cookies may be hard throughout the cupcake, but it actually softens with no hard cookie bits.  The icing is hands down the best part!  I could have sat there, and ate the whole bowl (and I'm not one to do that, so you know it's good).  Unfortunately I didn't crush the cookie bits enough for the icing, making it very difficult to pipe, and not up to my 'pretty' standards.  Oh well, it tastes good!

Stamps + Fondant = Pretty

My newest experimentation... fondant!  I originally thought I was going to use gum paste, but I found out that nobody eats gum paste.  That's no fun if you can't eat it!  While fondant is a bit trickier to work with... it's all worth it to let people know that it's edible.  What I love about these cupcakes is that they are simple and look good!  What's the secret?  Stamps!  Just make sure you get new stamps... nobody wants to eat ink.

Enjoy the pictures!

Spring is in the Air

More birthdays!  This week the birthday girl wants chocolate.  Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate.  So that's what I delivered.  Chocolate cake, chocolate icing, topped off with chocolate butterflies.

This is another inspiration found in 'Hello Cupcake!'

Making the butterflies was time consuming, delicate work.... but definitely worth it!

Cupcake Book #5

When people think of me, I believe the first word that comes to their heads is 'cupcake'.  Funny thing is, while I do enjoy making and decorating cupcakes, I hardly have any opportunities!  For my past birthday I received by 5th cupcake book, so I figure it's time I get baking.  I have recently become a youth leader and with that comes many birthday celebrations.  Time to get baking!

My first birthday cupcakes.  It's a learning process.  I should have made the stripes wider- but I feel they still turned out alright.  I was running late and didn't have time to take pretty pictures.  I snapped this one with photo booth on my mac- and ran out the door.

Around a group of preteens.... these were gone very fast!

Inspiration: These billiard balls can be found in, 'Hello Cupcake!'
